MetaPower's Approach To Organizational Culture

A tailored culture is the secret-sauce that determines performance. Success comes when culture is aligned with goals. For when procedures, training, and supervision end, the company culture continues. Every organization has a culture that shapes its approach to work. Conversely, every approach to work contributes to the organization’s culture. Culture has been described as organizational DNA, and consequently, it is an active part of every organization’s landscape. Patterns of thinking and acting are driven by the accumulated beliefs and assumptions about the organization’s work and the way it should be done. Many of these beliefs and assumptions operate in the background. Unless something disturbs our standard operating procedures, we are unaware of the beliefs and assumptions that shape our routines and decision-making. And, because the rationale for our beliefs and behaviors frequently runs deep in the realm of the unconscious, our usual reaction to a challenge is to defend our assumptions rather than examining their validity. This impulse is even stronger when there is no compelling reason for altering our habits and routines.

Meanwhile, as catastrophic disasters continue to occur in heavy industries, society wonders why safety standards are not being met. We ask “why do industries leaders struggle to manage risk by investing in business systems that never seem to totally succeed?” These systems fail because they are rigid and cannot adapt to business needs; indeed, they often enforce inappropriate cultural attributes. The offending features may be inherent in the original design, a relic of past practices or an oversight in an update.

With over 25 years of industrial business system experience, MetaPower has learned that most process systems have logical omissions and impossible contradictions. People avoid following them because these methodologies become inconsistent with their reality. We see the important role that easily-altered systems play in aligning an organizations culture with its business objectives. MetaPower has developed patented, adaptive technology to address these issues. Our systems are designed to evolve with the organization, taking days and weeks to update rather than months and years.

Unfortunately, there is no such thing as a perfect system; an obsolete system can be a dangerous thing. As management shapes its operation, the effort will create resistance —their project teams will protect familiar ways of doing things, which comes from their underlying cultural assumptions. MetaPower has positioned itself to address this entire range of issues. Our adaptive technology helps leaders ensure their systems correctly reflect evolving norms. Cultural awareness, together with appropriate tools and training, positions leadership to constructively deal with cultural issues. MetaPower’s hard-won experience has taught us this is the optimum way to ensure that a business can consistently perform to expectations.
