Process Safety Information (PSI)

The OSHA Standard for Process Safety Management of highly hazardous chemicals (Title 29 Part 1910.119 to the Code of Federal Regulations), specifies:

“…requirements for preventing or minimizing the consequences of catastrophic releases of toxic, reactive, flammable, or explosive chemicals.”

Subsection (e) specifies that employers “… perform a … process hazard analysis (hazard evaluation) on processes…”

Subsection (d) specifies that this hazard analysis be based on “… a compilation of written process safety information…”

Historically, industrial facilities have had a difficult time maintaining vital technical safety information as the processes are updated, modified and maintained. MetaPower has developed a empirically-based approach to this challenge.

MetaPower's Process Safety Information(PSI) Program includes an initial assessment to accurately determine the current condition of a facility’s Process Safety Information. Based on assessment results, our information specialists design a plan to:

  • systematically verify the process technical data
  • update drawings and specifications
  • assemble process safety packages
  • determine and/or validate process Safe Operating Limits (SOLs)
  • ensure that a facility change management process can maintain the Process Safety Information

MetaPower understands that it can be challenging to find the resources to perform a Process Safety Information assessment and validation effort.  To this end we have drawn on our business process background to develop a comprehensive approach.  Our success is based on conducting these projects on time and on budget.

Establishing or Updating a facilities PSI Program can provide the following:

  • Assurance of updated and accurate process design documents.

  • Compliance with OSHA’s Process Safety Management requirements.

  • Minimization of equipment failure and incident potential.

  • Optimized inventory levels.
